Going to the
Convention

Chapter 3
The Primaries

After the last primary ended, the party invited all the delegates to a “national convention,” an event usually held at the the end of August or in early September of the election year. At the convention, the delegates would vote for the candidate to “represent” the party at the presidential election. Pepper and Ronnie’s delegates all pledged (which means promised) to vote for them.

The candidates took turn speaking to the delegates and guests. The delegates then “nominated” (or named) the candidate they wanted to run as the presidential candidate for the Pizza Party. The votes were counted and the result was announced. As expected, with the largest number of delegates, Pepper and Ronnie won the nomination as the Pizza Party’s presidential candidate!
